Liposuction Question

"Dear Dr. Rai,
I am due to have our 5th baby any time now. I have a very flabby lower tummy, which is depressing to me. I have always wanted to do something about it, but wanted to wait until I was done having children. Should I wait until I am finished breast-feeding? How soon after the birth can I look into liposuction?"
Sincerely, kids_4me

Answer from Dr. Kimit Rai, Plastic Surgeon from the False Creek Surgical Center.

Dear kids_4me,
In answer to your first question, you will need to finish breast feeding at least 5 months before you have any surgery as this will allow the body time to settle down and the skin to shrink appropriately before any surgery can be recommended.

As for your second question, after having your 5th baby, the muscles of your abdomen are probably very weak and you have flabby skin of the lower tummy. This would indicate that you probably need 2 operations at the same time. You probably need a full tummy tuck to tighten the muscle and remove the excess skin and also you will need ultrasound liposculpturing to shape the body and contour it. We would need to assess your body first and then we could assess you and recommend the appropriate surgery for an abdominoplasty and ultrasound liposuction.

Good luck,

Dr. Rai
