Bio:
Marla Miller R.N. M.S.N. spent many years practicing community
mental health nursing before devoting herself to the writing life. She was a psychiatric nurse practitioner
and assistant professor at the University of Illinois, College of Nursing; her specialty, group therapy for
women in crisis. Her in-depth training and background in health care have proven to be a valuable adjunct
to her writing career.
Marla Miller is the author of All American Girls: The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team; the only authorized
biography of the 1999 World Cup winners. Published by Simon & Schuster in June 1999, the book is in its third
printing. For the last decade, she has penned a society column for the Orange County Register's Coast Magazine
as well as written many celebrity personality profiles and features for numerous regional and national
publications including the Los Angeles Times, Parenting Magazine and Oxygen Media Inc, Oprah Winfrey's
online/cable television network. Miller has received numerous writing awards including first place in
fiction at the Santa Barbara Writers Conference in 1997. She currently teaches both non-fiction and short
fiction writing courses at University of California, Irvine. For the last six years, she has co-hosted a
radio talk show in Orange County, California, featuring many celebrities and noted authors.
Her latest project is a book about plastic surgery that promises to be reader-friendly and aimed at
educating consumers about the process: from knowing what questions to ask during a consultation to
pre-op jitters and post-op recovery.
