When asked if this would go over with her, Ms. Van Sustern replied gamely: "I've got a good sense of humor. At my age, you have to."
But later, she revealed to the news agency Reuters: "The surgery wasn't this long, planned-out event,'' expressing a measure of embarrassment at the buzz generated by her cosmetic touch-up. "If I discovered the cure for cancer or found (Osama) bin Laden, I'd be very happy to have all this attention.''
Ms. Van Susteren revealed that she underwent the surgery on a whim, and wanted to get rid of the perpetually tired look that was caused by her bags. She also admits that she lost a bet to herself - she was sure that the swelling would go down by the time her show started - but it didn't. She admits that the surgery left her with a "little bit of a chubby face on one side" and that she appeared puffy when her first show.
This serves as an excellent reminder to all who are considering surgery to be realistic about the results and healing time. She also encouraged women to do all their research before undergoing the surgery, and make themselves fully aware of healing time, potential side effects, and doctor credentials.
She says: "My only hope is that the swelling is down by the time I have my 30th high school reunion this summer - I'm hoping to make jealous all those guys who would not date me in high school."
