Browlift

Pros:
Only one brow needed lifting to match the heighth of the other, and they are very even now.
This also helped my frown line.
|
Cons:
Had to have full open scalp incision due to some old facial paralysis. The staples were uncomfortable and I lost some hair around the incision. It's growing back well but will take awhile. I had tremendous swelling which mostly was gone in a week but the bruising lasted much longer. I understand that browlifts don't usually have to be done by full scalp incision, just special cases. I couldn't wash my hair for two weeks and that was difficult.
|
Cost:
$ 1200 plus anesthesia.

|
Healing time:
A month till I was able to go out easily.

|
Pain-o-meter: 4

|

Understand that my case is not just the usual story. I had mild to moderate eyebrow droop from a childhood illness. To shorten or tighten those muscles the whole forehead was loosened and flapped foreward. This caused a lot of the bruising and swelling.
Along with the browlift I had one lower lid lifted, same as 8 years ago. It came out very well, too.I nsurance covered this part.
Also I had light lasering to the face and neck, which is, I think, why all the meds were prescribed. The results of that are noticeable. It cost $3000.
I am considered a success case despite the hair loss.
It consisted of an area slightly larger than a ping pong ball and it took three months before it started to grow back in.
The bruising lasted the longest, and I was truly bruised from hairline to chest.
Do not do this if you are not fully prepared to be UGLIER for a few weeks. If you can handle that, then I say - go for it.
You will look presentable in a few weeks, but will continue to heal for months. It just kept getting better. :-)

Here are more details:

How results differed from what I expected:
Better than I hoped for!

Biggest fears pre-procedure:
That because of the paralysis, the brow would fall right down afterwards. It didn't.
Feared the pain but it wasn't that bad. Pain meds for three or four days only. (I am not that tough.)Was afraid my 12 year old would freak when she saw me: but she handled it OK.

Healing aids used:
I was put on steroids, antibiotics and antiviral meds post-op. Pre-op I used a home facial peel treatment for two weeks.

Number of doctors consulted:
just the one who was recommended by a friend.

Number of years I thought about having the procedure:
2-3

Had an elective procedure before:
Yes

Complications or follow-up procedures:

Mild fungal infection of the mouth from all the medicines. More hairloss than even the doctor expected, possibly due to some post-op bleeding in that area. (Not much blood, but a large scab formed superficially causing the hair to be stressed.)

Our weight alone is not a sufficient measure to assess our risk for disease. Total body fat, fat distribution and the consequences of dieting must be considered as well.
