Browlift/Upper Eyelid Surgery

Pros:
Raised eyebrows, elimination of forhead lines, removal of a fold in one eyelid
Cons:
Extreme swelling and bruising. I still have black circles under my eyes after 3 weeks. Blurred vision in one eye and dryness in both eyes.
Cost:
$4000 for surgeon's fee

Healing time:
3 weeks plus

Pain-o-meter:  7

I consulted 3 doctors regarding concerns with a fold in my left eyelid and wrinkles around my eyes. I opted for a endoscopic brow lift and upper eyelid surgery. My doctor was double board certified in ENT and Facial Plastic Surgery. I expected a 7 - 10 day recovery...

I became sick from the anesthesia and vomited which I think contributed to my bruising and swelling. My eyelids were leaking blood throughout the night and by the next morning, my entire face was swollen and purple. By the end of one week, I was still extremely bruised with moderate swelling. The bruising was "moving" down my face and throat. I truely looked like I had been assaulted.

I also was experiencing blurred vision, I think due to dryness in my eyes. Sometimes your eyes don't shut completely initially with this type of surgery.

It is now 3 weeks post op and I still have bruising under my eyes, a swollen eyelid, and dry eyes. I NEVER expected that the surgery would be this difficult. I have confidence in my doctor but believe he (and all doctors) should be more up-front about what to expect. I am not sure I would have gone through with this if I had known. I may have to have a minor "redo" which will equalize the height of my eyebrows. It is too soon to tell since I still have swelling.

If doctors would let you see photos of the healing process, it would allow you to be more informed about what to expect. There have been many "panic" moments and I question whether I did the right thing because I wasn't expecting this to be so difficult.

Here are more details:

How results differed from what I expected:
Everything I read and was told was that healing time would be approximately 7 - 10 days. It has now been 3 weeks and my eyes are still dry, I still have minor black eyes, and part of my head is still numb. I may have to have a partial "redo" since my eyebrows are uneven. (They were uneven before but now are more pronounced).

Biggest fears pre-procedure:
My biggest fear was that the doctor would not "lift" enough

Healing aids used:
Not specified

Number of doctors consulted:
3

Number of years I thought about having the procedure:
2

Had an elective procedure before:
No

Complications or follow-up procedures:

Extreme swelling afterwards. My eyes were almost closed shut and my whole face was swollen and bruised.
