Childbirth was a piece of cake compared to this!

Pros:
I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT
|
Cons:
CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE IN BODY SHAPE....WONDERING IF IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT
|
Cost:
2500

|
Healing time:
15 MONTHS AND STILL AT IT

|
Pain-o-meter: 10

I was going to have to have a bladder tack and decided to do the abdominoplasty at the same time because the incision, healing etc were similar. This was going to be as out-patient at the hospital and insurance would cover the urological part.
I'm 49 and had my last child at 38 and muscles were gone. The bladder surgery went fine. While doing the tummy tuck he also did a hernia repair. When the sick was pulled down for the stitches, the middle part below the belly button did not get blood supply and turned black and the skin and are had to have de-briement.
This hole was packed with 4x4's soaked in Saline solution just to be EVEN with the rest of the skin as it had to heal from the inside out. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital (which was a fight with the insurance) and when I came home I had a catheter (from the bladder work), 2 drainage tubes, the spandex binder and could not sit up or walk for days!
Childbirth was no comparision to this! I was going back to the plastic surgeon twice a week for 3 months, once a week for 2 months, bi-weekly for 2 months and then monthly until having the follow-up surgery a week ago (July 9). The hole is gone. It was fixed in the follow-up surgery and I still have stitches but feel FAT and bloated! My clothes do not fit as good as they did before this follow-up and I have no waist, my pants come up within 4 inches of my bra! I'm wondering if I am going to be stuck like this.

Here are more details:

How results differed from what I expected:
I THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE A BETTER FIGURE AND MY CLOTHES WOULD FIT BUT NOW THE WAISTBAND OF MY PANTS IS 4" FROM MY BRA!!!

Biggest fears pre-procedure:
MY BIGGEST CONCERN WAS HOW WOULD IT FEEL POST-OP. NONE OF MY REASEARCH COULD HAVE PREPARED ME FOR THAT!

Healing aids used:
Not Specified

Number of doctors consulted:
1 GROUP

Number of years I thought about having the procedure:
5

Had an elective procedure before:
Yes

Complications or follow-up procedures:

I ENDED UP WITH A HOLE IN MY GUT THAT YOU COULD PUT YOUR FIST IN!!! IT WAS THAT WIDE AND THAT DEEP! FROM BLOOD SUPPLY NOT GETTING TO THE AREA
