Operation Smile -
Giving kids a reason to smile

By Sherry Kahn, MPH

Many Supporters
Big deeds take big dollars. Operation Smile receives financial and volunteer support from many major corporations, including Johnson & Johnson, Colgate-Palmolive, Citigroup and Texaco. Recently, Sephora, the world’s largest beauty retailer, created a unisex lip baume for the organization. All proceeds from the sale of “Operation Smile Lip Baume,” available in Sephora stores and from www.sephora.com, go directly to the nonprofit organization.

Hollywood celebrities have also become involved. Goldie Hawn spent several days with the Operation Smile team in Lima, Peru, where she bonded with Juan Guzman, an 8-year old orphan, who underwent surgery for a cleft lip and palate. Back home in California, Hawn and Kurt Russell, hosted a fundraising party for 550 guests – including Juan.

As a component of the Sephora philanthropic campaign, 36 celebs, including Calista Flockhart, Charlize Theron, Cybill Sheperd, Anne Heche and Roma Downey, contributed kiss prints for a Valentine-February auction on www.ebay.com.

Operation Smile is affiliated with www.ForMyCause.com. By signing up for “MyBar,” an Internet navigational toolbar, and designating Operation Smile as your cause of choice, you can generate revenue for the organization while you’re online.
